I had ordered this book online Last week and it arrived in the mail a couple of day ago. The Book is the Art of Electronics By Paul Horowitz and Winfield Hill. Here Is my review of the Book.
The First Chapter Is Super Awesome and must read for every Electronics Enthusiast, Maker and hacker!. It’s All about the Basics of Electronics and the Underlying theory On how things Work in the electronics world. And Make Sure You Read the chapter thoroughly even If you are an Electronics Guru You are sure to find a alot of Interesting Stuff in there that you might have not known or might have read about a long time ago. A great Refresher Course is What the first chapter is all about!
Then there are chapters in the book about everything that a person who might be involved in electronics design might need. Simple Circuit snippets. There’s an Extensive Section just about using 555 Timer chips. and Other such Common Chips. Also the topics on Op-amps are covered extensively and are a must read. Most of the Components described in the Book are either obsolete or have been superseded by superior components so trying out the circuits given in the book might prove a bit difficult. But i think find the Modern day equivalents of these chips is fairly easy. Considering the Book was written in 1980 and the last revision was in 1989 the book still has a lot of stuff the modern day maker or hacker might find useful!
Overall the Book is a great reference for anybody, Even for people who are not Involved in electronics design but are interested in finding out how electronics work or want to start working with electronics. And make sure you set up a lab with all the basic test and measurement instruments(MSO/DSO , Multimeter,Breadboard, jumper Wires, resistors,Capacitors, Inductors,Basic Ics such as 555.LM386,etc) ready before you try out the experiments given in this book. The Experiments are designed to Help one understand the concept involved in Electronics and are a very great Beginners course for students as well as a refreshers course for Veteran EEs!
My Verdict : A Must Have Reference On every Book Shelf!!
